Flipside Circus welcomes $1 million funding commitment from Federal Government

Flipside Circus was pleased to host Senator Mitch Fifield, Minister for Communications and the Arts, and the Federal Member for Brisbane, Trevor Evans MP as they made an election commitment to invest $1 million towards the establishment of a new Brisbane Circus Centre to provide a permanent dedicated home for circus arts.

Trevor Evans MP said, “One of Brisbane’s great hidden talents is we make great circus and circus artists. A dedicated, specialist, contemporary circus centre will give Queensland circus, and young circus artists, the space they need to train, create new work, and take on the world.

Senator Mitch Fifield, said the funding would be a further boost by the federal government to Queensland’s thriving arts community.

The announcement was welcomed by Flipside’s Chair, Hamish Clift. “Brisbane’s circus sector is incredibly busy – Flipside alone reached over 29,000 participants in 2018, toured to 16 regional Queensland communities, hosted over 1,000 artists, and our performances were seen by over 40,000 people. A permanent specialist home for circus to rehearse and train will help us reach even more people.

Flipside Circus is Queensland’s largest youth arts company. We believe circus provides a unique opportunity for young people to show off, take risks, trust, dream and aspire, work hard, laugh and have fun!

Flipside is a not-for-profit organisation that provides:

  • Regular classes and training at our current home-base and right across Queensland;
  • An artistic program of performances by, for, and with young people;
  • Community and social circus programs;
  • Support for Queensland’s world beating circus artists and independent companies.
