It’s been a particularly big month at Flipside. Flipside artists have been at Queensland Parliament House; at QPAC’s Out of the Box Festival; in training, in schools; and on the road in regional and remote Queensland.

Over 25,000 children attended this year’s Out of the Box Festival and young Flipside artists were in the middle of it – performing throughout the festival and helping our trainers deliver workshops all week sharing their skills with young audiences and their families.

Artists from our advanced aerials and Step Ups troupe were also out representing Flipside at Queensland Parliament House during the Parliamentary Friends of Creativity event. Our aerial rig looked great in the middle of the Parliamentary complex and our artists were fantastic – on a beautiful (but very chilly) winter night.

Our senior performance troupe artists are working on a new showcase performance that will premiere in August, and artists from The Good Room have been on the training floor working with our acrobats ahead of our new show in November.

School holiday workshops are in full swing, our mid-year Waterways camp is coming up, and enrolments for Term 3 are now open.

In July, we will say a sad goodbye to our amazing training program lead, Phoebe Waltham. Phoebe is taking on new adventures, and moving to China. Phoebe first joined Flipside in 2018 and started her current role in 2020 helping us through an extraordinary period. Phoebe led our COVID training programs developing new online classes during lockdown and COVID-safe social distanced classes. She developed the first programs when we opened the Brisbane Circus Centre and helped manage our fire response last year. Phoebe’s also been a passionate driver of our early years programs – and is responsible for most of the upbeat music choices on the training floor. We’ll miss Phoebe and her enthusiasm and dedication. On behalf of the Flipside community I want to thank her for all her work and wish her the best for the future.
