WATERWAYS

A Flipside Circus and Lara Croydon collaboration

Waterways is a First Nations-led circus project in partnership with Flipside trainer, producer, and Indigenous Arts Leader Lara Croydon (Gudjala Kabulba). Over multiple years, Waterways is dedicated to nurturing Indigenous talent and creating lasting connections between circus and First Nations communities.

The project unfolds across three key streams:

  1. Connections: Fostering community connections with circus by offering free workshops and activations with schools, community organisations and community-led events. This stream also encompasses our free First Nations classes at our Circus Centre and scholarships for First Nations students into existing Flipside classes.
  2. Pathways: Building pathways into the performing industry by offering paid opportunities for First Nations peoples. This stream focuses on upskilling and networking, empowering artists to connect and thrive within the performing arts landscape.
  3. Our Gathering Ground: Enhancing organisational capacity and cultural awareness. This stream embeds cultural perspectives and protocols into Flipside Circus and focuses on building an open welcoming space for First Nations people to gather and flourish.
